It will be the ninth time the two nations have met when USA and Switzerland go head-to-head in the World Group play-offs in April.
USA have an unblemished record against Switzerland, having won all eight previous encounters, five of which have been played on clay.
The sides first met in 1968, while their most recent showdown was in 1993 when USA prevailed 3-0 in a tie contested in Frankfurt, Germany.
In all eight of their meetings, Switzerland have won only one rubber against USA, which came during their 1984 tussle and a World Group second round tie in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Following defeat to Australia in Asheville, 18-time Fed Cup winners USA now face a battle to retain their World Group status, having not featured outside of the competition’s top level since 2016.
Switzerland’s competition history is not as illustrious as the USA’s, with their best result being their runners-up finish in 1998. The Swiss are bidding to return to the World Group at the first time of asking.
